PLDT introduces the next generation of Fiber, starts roll out of ultra-fast Gigabit Fiber plans

PLDT launches the fastest broadband plans in the country, 10x faster than any other plan available

PLDT SVP and Head of Consumer Business Jeremiah de la Cruz reaffirms the company’s commitment to making Filipinos’ lives better as the leading telco ushers the country into the Gigabit Era.

PLDT Home is again breaking new ground in Philippine broadband with the launch of its ultra-fast Gigabit Fiber Plans which will provide Filipinos with the fastest, most reliable internet available today.

Prior to this, PLDT Home was also the first to introduce the then-unprecedented speeds of up to 1 Gbps, giving Filipinos a glimpse of the wonders of the Gigabit Era of the internet. With the new Gigabit Fiber Plans, Filipinos will now have access to internet speeds of up to an astounding 10 Gbps.
PLDT SVP and Head of Consumer Business Jeremiah de la Cruz

“We are proud to usher the Filipino into the Gigabit Era,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Vice-President and Head of Consumer Business Home. “Our commitment is to be at the forefront of digital innovations, blazing the trail to give our countrymen the technologies which will open doors to meaningful opportunities that will make their lives better. We exemplify that today by pioneering the next generation of Fiber which allows PLDT Home to deliver Gigabit-speeds straight to the Home.”

Superior speeds and more for the Filipino

PLDT Home’s Gigabit Fiber comes in four different plans: 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps, and a maximum of 10 Gbps. These mind-blowing speeds enable simultaneous ultra-fast and high bandwidth online activities for everyone at home.

In addition to the ultra-fast speeds provided by PLDT Home’s Gigabit Fiber plans, customers also get to round out their fully digital lifestyle as each Gigabit Fiber plan comes with a Gigabit modem complemented with a whole home WiFi 6 mesh system, subscriptions to IPTV and global streaming apps, and security services for personal devices at home.

The plans don’t just give them an unmatched digital experience—they also get to enjoy exclusive VIP treatment like no other. Gigabit Fiber plan subscribers receive exclusive perks such as premium welcome kits and access to PLDT Home exclusive events and venues.

What is Gigabit speed?

Gigabit speed is the next generation of Fiber high-speed internet, pushing limits to at least 100 times faster than today’s average internet connections of 100 Mbps at home.

The Gigabit unit of measurement refers to the data transfer speed of the connection. Current plans only transmit hundreds of megabits per second which, while fast, are easily eclipsed by the next-generation speeds.

Gigabit internet essentially blows a household’s bandwidth wide open, not only providing ultra-fast connections, but keeping it consistent and reliable across many devices. This is especially useful for large families and groups who may have huge demands for a lag-free connection for everything they do in every computer and gadget—a reality which is becoming the new normal in Filipino homes.

Only a handful of countries around the world have managed to tap into the unrelenting power of Gigabit-fast internet. Developed countries such as South Korea, Japan, and the United States have it, and its presence in the Philippines puts the country among an elite roster of nations in the world that are Gigabit-ready.

Digital Innovations Leader

Pioneering the next generation fiber plans that reached maximum speeds of 10 Gbps, PLDT Home’s innovation in its country-wide fiber infrastructure is guided by the fact that internet speed not only influences the way we communicate and consume online information, but also drives innovations in industries, levels up businesses, aids in work and education, sparks creative pursuits, and enhances people’s entertainment experiences.

“As PLDT Home sets new ground for digital innovations, we foresee life, leisure, and work opportunities opening up for Filipinos. PLDT Home’s pioneering Gigabit Fiber plans will enable next-level efficiency and productivity, even smoother and more seamless entertainment, peak convenience in smart homes, and an all-around better digital lifestyle. We at PLDT are truly excited and positively welcoming Filipinos to the Gigabit Era,” said de la Cruz.

With superfast gigabits of data streaming through PLDT Home Fiber, extreme power users—those who consume at least 5 TB of data every month—can download and upload large volumes of data in a matter of seconds. Ultra-high-definition 4K video and high-demand online games can stream with no lag at all, HD movies and series can download in only a few moments, and numerous large files can be transmitted without waiting, making for better efficiency and productivity at work and school from home.

Meanwhile, as smart home technology develops at a rapid pace and more households in the Philippines embrace the future, they will need an internet that’s able to keep up and consistently power this digital ecosystem. Gigabit internet can reliably keep all the devices in your smart home running efficiently.

PLDT Home’s Gigabit Fiber plans will be available initially in select villages in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao.

The limitless possibilities of gigabit internet thanks to PLDT Home’s Gigabit Fiber internet plans puts the Philippines on the brink of a major boost by giving Filipinos access to potentially life-changing internet speeds.

The iconic PLDT ad ‘Suportahan Ta Ka’ gets a real-life sequel

Love communicated is love received. In these times when young adults have so many choices in their careers, a parent’s support means the world to them as they begin to lead their own lives.

Open and loving communication has always been the message of PLDT. Remember the iconic tagline “Suportahan Ta Ka” from the 2000s TV ad? It’s making a comeback on PLDT’s 95th anniversary campaign.

From the Suportahan Ta Ka TV ad produced by Ace Saatchi & Saatchi, actor and model Christian Vasquez played a young medical student who asked for his dad’s permission if he could shift his degree to Fine Arts. As he confessed his plans, his doctor dad said, “Kung saan ka masaya ti, suportahan ta ka [Whatever makes you happy, I’ll support you!].” This one line immediately became a hit in the 2000s.

Twenty-two years since the TV commercial was launched, Christian Vasquez comes back with a true-to-life story that makes a heartwarming sequel for the iconic ad. Christian, now with two children, faces the same circumstances with his eldest son. On PLDT’s 95th anniversary video, Christian shares his own personal story.

The video tells the story of Christian’s real son, Jason (who also stars in the video), who’s due to take the engineering board exam soon and is at the same time working in an IT company. In the video, Jason is shown stressed and tired while reviewing for his board exam. In an online video call, Jason works up the courage to tell his dad Christian about his plan not to take the board exams and wishes to stay in his IT job.

Christian expresses his disbelief and tries to encourage Jason to take the exam as it will open more opportunities for him being an engineer. Just as he’s about to tell his son off, he suddenly remembers the lesson he learned from his own story from 22 years ago — that he must also show support for his son’s dreams.

At the end of the video, Christian emphatically tells his son that he supports his decision. From his dad’s “Suportahan ta ka,” Christian lets out the line “Palangga Ta Ka,” (which means “I love you”) highlighting his unconditional love and support for his son.

Parents may not always agree with their children’s decisions, but in the end, love and meaningful communication conquer doubt. In the video campaign, PLDT highlights its message of enabling meaningful connection through every generation. From grandparents to parents and their own children, PLDT enables people to make meaningful connections even when they are far apart. Or even when the family may not agree with your decisions — love prevails.

On its 95th anniversary celebration, PLDT reminds families of this powerful message and the importance of love, respect, and kindness in connecting with each other.

Revisit The Hunger Games saga on Lionsgate Play before Watching The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Many still hail The Hunger Games franchise as the peak of the dystopian genre even though the first movie premiered over a decade ago. Adapted from Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel of the same name, Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games movies thrust viewers into the world of Panem where a band of rebels led by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) attempts to overthrow an oppressive government. With a gripping narrative, intricate world-building, and a spectacle of violence and power, the trilogy grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide, kickstarting a trend of dystopian movies in the 2010s.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Press play on a nostalgic marathon of The Hunger Games saga, exclusively
                                                           streaming on Lionsgate Play.
                                             -------------------------------------------------------------

No one is ready to say goodbye to the world of Panem just yet. The latest installment from the franchise, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is set to hit the big screen on November 15. A prequel film set 64 years before the events of the first movie, it explores the childhood of a young President Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) before he stepped to power in Panem.

Dystopian genre lovers will be thrilled to know that all of The Hunger Games movies are available for streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play. So if you need to revisit the world of Panem and lose yourself once again in epic stories of survival, courage, and hope this is your cue to hit that play button!

The Hunger Games (2012)

Jennifer Lawrence brought Katniss Everdeen to life when she portrayed the bow-and-arrow-wielding teenager from the post-apocalyptic, dystopian nation of Panem. Katniss is a resourceful sixteen-year-old hardened from years of providing for her family in District 12. She heroically volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in the 74th Hunger Games, a televised event where tributes from each district are forced to fight to the death for the Capitol’s entertainment. Katniss and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) form an unlikely alliance and, in doing so, unintentionally defy everything the Capitol stands for.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

Catching Fire picks up where the first movie left off, with Katniss and fellow victor Peeta on a Victory Tour of Panem. However, Katniss senses their newfound fame is just the spark needed to set ablaze a simmering rebellion against the oppressive government. To control Katniss as the symbol of resistance, the Capitol holds a Quarter Quell for the 75th Hunger Games. This year, tributes from each district will be chosen from the existing pool of victors, forcing Katniss and Peeta back into the arena. But things are not as they seem. Plans have been set in motion and the pair are thrust in the midst of a rebellion that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (2014)

Katniss is rescued from a devastating Quarter Quell and embraces becoming a symbol of the rebellion. After the Capitol reduces her home to rubble, she now lives in a supposedly nonexistent District 13 under the leadership of President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore). Katniss becomes the Mockingjay, a symbol of the rebellion. She attempts to save Peeta who was kidnapped by the Capitol. Throughout Mockingjay Part 1, we see Katniss struggling to cope with the loss of loved ones and the weight of her role in the rebellion.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015)

The final film brings the trilogy to a thrilling conclusion. Katniss teams up with her closest friends and fellow rebels – Peeta, Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), and Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) – in a bid to defeat President Snow (Donald Sutherland) once and for all. As they take the battle in the streets of the Capitol, the rebels have to navigate through mortal traps, determine who the enemies are, and make moral choices that will determine the future of millions in Panem. In the end, Katniss understands that to truly liberate Panem’s citizens from a war that threatens to kill them all, she has to eliminate every single threat and put a total end to the bloodshed.

The real inspiration behind Michelle Marquez Dee’s advocacies : The PLDT Home Ambassador recalls her journey to empowerment

“It felt like forever.”

This is how Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee described the moment when she was announced as the winner last May.

“All you can hope for is that destiny is on your side — and it was on that night of May 13. When they finally called my name, honestly, I just felt like all the hard work paid off. When you’ve dedicated your whole life and everything for that moment to happen, mapapabagsak ka. I actually bent over because of relief, happiness, and gratitude.”

28-year-old Michelle will represent the Philippines at Miss Universe in El Salvador in November.

She is the finest fit, even PLDT Inc. Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan himself said upon meeting her, along with the other Miss Universe Philippines queens at a PLDT and Smart exclusive meet-and-greet with executives and employees at Ramon Cojuangco Building in Makati City recently.

“We could think of no better woman to proudly bear the flag at this year’s Miss Universe pageant than Michelle,” Pangilinan said. “She is smart with her confidence and authentic with her advocacies. We at PLDT fully stand beside her. We have no doubt that she will be one of the strongest queens in the field, and that she will go very far.”

Deepening her connections

Michelle celebrates, and at the same time, bears on her shoulders the legacy of her mother Melanie Marquez in the pageant world. Melanie is the youngest Miss International, winning the title when she was only 15 years old in 1979. Later on, she became a successful actress, starring in comedy films and TV sitcoms.

An actress, model, and PLDT Home ambassador, Michelle enjoys a close relationship with her parents and siblings, with whom she always stays connected through video calls.
“My mom is one of my biggest inspirations. She is responsible for why I am so strong,” she says. “She is somebody that I really look up to. She was nothing but proud. She instilled in my mind that I should shine as my own woman, be confident in what I have and what I have to offer.”

PLDT Home Ambassador Michelle Marquez Dee and mom, actress, and Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez have maintained a close relationship through the years.

On the night Michelle won, pageant fans went wild when they saw what netizens dubbed “the snake walk.” She recalls, “The inspiration was really my mother. My trainer Ian Mendajar and I were conceptualizing the walk and really trying to personalize my choreography. We had always aspired to integrate my mom as an inspiration throughout my journey and we felt like this was the right moment.”

Michelle wanted to do something special during the coronation night because it was Mother’s Day the following day. “I dedicated my whole journey to my mom and my family. I owe it to them that I’m a strong and empowered individual.”

Michelle’s international pageant journey would have commenced in 2019 when she won Miss World Philippines, but the pandemic happened. She then joined Miss Universe Philippines 2022, where she won Miss Universe Philippines Tourism, second to Filipino-Italian Celeste Cortesi who won the crown, with the two becoming close friends over time. Early this year, Michelle became part of the cast of the fantasy drama Mga Lihim ni Urduja, which premiered in February, and throughout the MUP competition — where she first had to compete to represent Makati — she was running on only a few hours of sleep between the pageant competition and taping.

Throughout her busy schedule, Michelle constantly communicated with her family and friends. And thanks to social media, powered by the fastest broadband connection provided by PLDT Home, she realized just how much of a positive impact she had on her fans and that she could have on young people – especially young girls who aspire to be successful in and outside the pageant circuit.

“Miss Universe is undoubtedly one of the biggest platforms to really create positive change around the world, and that’s my main goal. I want to set a great example for people to become empowered and transformational leaders,” she says. “To finally walk this path is absolutely amazing. I’ve had one of the hardest times in the past few months, and it was all worth it. Hard work and dedication can get you anywhere you want in life.”

Spreading the word on her causes

Now that she has an enormous opportunity to push her advocacies and start conversations around autism, Michelle says that everything she does must have a purpose.

“My two siblings on the autism spectrum are my lifelong mission. Being able to give to them what they need and to be a part of the solution is something that I don't take lightly. I know the kind of life I want them to live, I know what is lacking in the Philippines and the world. It means the world to me to be part of such a positive change for my siblings and for everybody that's on the autism spectrum as well.”

“At Autism Society Philippines, we see every individual on the spectrum as having their own talent and we want them to live fulfilled and empowered lives. That's why I really advocate for acceptance, inclusivity, and awareness. My two siblings were also there during the coronation night, cheering for me. I knew that they understood that this competition was for them,” she adds.

Michelle is a true example of a Filipino with an open and welcoming heart for everyone regardless of color, gender, or station in life. Even at a young age, she was participating in the charities her family was involved in. Her grandmother founded the Inner Peace Foundation over 40 years ago, which Michelle now heads.

“My father always taught me that if you have the means to give back, then you should always give back. I’m so grateful to have such strong pillars in my life, teaching me that the only way to go is to make sure that people around you are safe and taken care of.”

Going back to her roots

Michelle takes to heart the lesson her family taught her: “To always walk life full of gratitude, love and kindness.”

No wonder that when she was asked during the pageant what to her is the best the country can offer the world, she answered straight from the heart. It’s always the people. As she said, “We are the true heart and soul of the Philippines with the way we are hospitable, with our warm smiles. And we are the reason why the world keeps coming back for more. No matter where the universe takes me, I'll always be proud to call the Philippines my home. And no matter what happens I will always be proud to call myself Pinoy.”
