Kick-start the Learning Experience with Licealiz

Back-to-school season is finally here. While it’s time to say goodbye to beach trips and playdates under the sun, there is no need to say adiós to clean, lice-free hair. Although it is a challenge for mommies, children could still maintain good hair hygiene despite spending most of their time with classmates and friends.

Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo recently addressed this challenge and provided an easy solution for concerned mothers through its Kick-starting the Learning Experience workshop. Through this learning session, moms and daughters were given a fun bonding experience while at the same time picking up tips on how to keep those tresses flawless and expressing their personality and creativity.

There was a lecture on basic hair care, including ways on preventing head lice infestation, to teach the mothers on how to prepare well for the school season, especially in ensuring that their child’s health remains uncompromised by threats such as pediculosis or head lice infestation.

For school girls, fashionable hairstyles are the definite hype which is why there was a hairstyle tutorial that instructed mommies how to style preppy, easy-to-do hairstyles that their kids can pull off at school.

To ensure that the day was one that both the moms and kids enjoyed, they were also treated to an educational tour at The Mind Museum to feed the kids with new learnings and experiences.

Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo, an affordable, non-toxic formula that is clinically-proven to kill lice and nits, hopes to not only help mothers maintain their children’s head lice-free, but to also provide the children with the opportunity to satisfy their thirst for learning.

Licealiz launches Kilusang Kontra Kuto for Head Lice Awareness Month

With September being Head Lice Prevention Month, Lamoiyan Corporation has created a health education campaign designed to help communities all over the country address the problem of kuto (lice).

Led by Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz head lice treatment shampoo, in partnership with the Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines (MCNAP) and supported by the UP Manila College of Public Health, the Kilusang Kontra Kuto was formed as an educational movement seeking to spread awareness about lice infestation issues and prevent and treat head lice.

“A study by the DepEd in 2009 estimated that 8 million public school students aged 7 to 12 years old* were infested with head lice,” stated Dr. Arlene Bertuso, an entomologist and professor from the UP Manila College of Public Health.
Dr. Bertuso also shared that head lice can live for up to 30 days in a human head and that female lice can lay up to 100 eggs in their lifetime.

This cycle produces more and more lice that can cause severe itchiness and infection of the scalp. But itchiness could be the least of these children’s worries. The social stigma associated with having kuto can leave lasting psychological damage, as it has been found that kuto-infested children were subject to bullying and teasing, leading them to miss school for days at a time.

However, since kuto can be easily transmitted through direct contact with an infested person or object, the solution is not just to treat the heads affected but through a joint effort by homes, schools, and communities.
“Nurses all over the Philippines, especially those assigned in schools, commonly encounter children with kuto,” shared Balbina Borneo, President of the MCNAP. “Because this problem easily affects a huge number of people, I can say that kuto really is a social concern that needs to be addressed by the whole community.”
Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines president Ms. Bambi Borneo, celebrity mom Love Anover, and UP Manila College of Public Health professor and entomologist Dr. Arlene Bertuso support the Kilusang Kontra Kuto led by Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo.

To help prevent the spread of head lice, experts like Dr. Bertuso recommend that parents regularly inspect their children’s hair, as well as the hair of everyone in the household.

“Communities can start a regular program wherein school nurses or barangay health workers can diagnose people with head lice and advise them on proper head lice treatment and prevention. Head lice might not be deadly, but the social stigma associated with having them makes kuto infestation a public health problem worthy of concern,” Dr. Bertuso said.

Meanwhile, MCNAP President Balbina Borneo advised, “We have to take action in keeping our households kuto free through simple activities like avoiding sharing of combs, towels and other materials that touch the hair, as lice spreads through physical contact with infested objects. We should regularly replace our beddings and pillowcases to avoid the transfer of lice.”

Celebrity mom Love Añover also shared her experience dealing with head lice and another effective solution she discovered to fight it – Licealiz head lice treatment shampoo.

“We were very careful with my daughter’s hygiene and surroundings, so I couldn’t believe it when she started scratching her head. Sure enough, we found head lice! We didn’t think it was possible for my daughter to get head lice given how young she was at the time, but eventually we found out that she got them from our household help. When I was a child, we only used suyod, which was quite inefficient in getting all the lice out. For my daughter, we wanted to try something clinically tested and proven in removing lice. We tried Licealiz head lice treatment shampoo and after two weeks of use, my child was lice-free!” she shared

Licealiz Anti-Lice shampoo conducts shampooing programs for public school students all over the Philippines.
This September, Licealiz will continue arranging shampooing programs and activities for public school students all over the country and will also be posting educational materials on head lice and how to fight them in its Facebook page.

Activations ambassador Dr. Maria Michelle Vita, who travels with the Licealiz team and gives lectures to parents of public school students about head lice prevention and treatment, has this to say about the program. “We formed the Kilusang Kontra Kuto to help stop the spread of misinformation about kuto and to remove the stigma associated with being infested. Kuto is a public health problem that can be solved with the help of everyone from the community.” explained Dr. Vita.

This Head Lice Prevention Month, Licealiz invites everyone to join the Kilusang Kontra Kuto in changing the public’s perception about kuto infestation and spreading correct information regarding head lice prevention and treatment.

Children learn about kuto from educational coloring books provided by Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo.

Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo comes in 60mL bottles and 10mL sachets in regular and soothing coolness variants at only P71.75 and P12.00 SRP.

Hair Wellness for kids, lice infestation is rampant among Filipino students

Over 9 million Filipino school children were found to have head lice in year 2000. At the time, that represented 84 percent of the population of public school children in Metro Manila and some provinces.

This was found by a study conducted by the Department of Education and the University of the Philippines. It’s such a big problem that head lice are considered the second biggest health concern among students, 7 to 12 years of age, after tooth decay.

In year 2014, with a bigger population of school children, the likelihood of spreading lice infestation among students is greater. And since our tropical climate worsens the itch we feel in our scalps, more students find themselves scratching their heads, and possibly transferring lice and nits or lice eggs (kuto and lisa) from their fingernails to their friends’, playmates’ and classmates’ hair and personal belongings including combs and hair accessories, and even school, PE, and sports uniforms, as well as jackets and sweaters. Students who go to sleepovers may catch lice from shared pillows and linen.

School is one place where students have close physical contact for an extended period of time. This means more opportunities to catch lice from one another. School children with lice are usually exposed to social stigma and shame—and you don’t want your child to go through that.

There are several steps that a parent can take to prevent, control, and eliminate lice infestation. These include:

Teaching kids proper hygiene habits

These habits include regular washing of hair with shampoo and conditioner. Kids should also be taught to avoid, as much as possible, borrowing personal items of their friends and classmates.

Signs and symptoms

Teach your kids that an itchy scalp could be a sign that they have a lice infestation and that they should let you know about it immediately. Other symptoms include a tickling feeling on the hair and scalp, which could be the lice moving around; irritability and difficulty sleeping; red bumps on the scalp, neck, or shoulders; sores that develop due to repeated scratching of the scalp; and small white objects on the hair that are difficult to brush away—they need to be removed by a fine-toothed comb or with fingers—are likely nits.

Keeping clothes and linen lice-free

Lice and nits need just the right temperature—the same temperature as a human scalp—in order to survive. Washing clothes, blankets and other bed linen in hot water will kill lice and nits that are left on them. Make doubly sure by setting the dryer on high heat. In the case of fabrics that are too sensitive for regular washing, dry cleaning is an option that will also kill lice and nits. Personal items that cannot be washed may be sealed inside plastic bags for two weeks—lice and nits do not survive long away from the scalp and they will die within this period.

Keeping the house clean

Regular vacuuming and cleaning in the house, especially of the floor and furniture that has come in contact with a lice-infested person, will help reduce the chances of lice infestation in the house.

Choose an effective and safe head lice treatment shampoo

LiceAliz is proven safe and effective when it comes to eliminating head lice in children and adults. It kills lice using a natural ingredient made from chrysanthemum flowers called pyrethrin. It’s so easy and convenient to use: just apply, lather, and rinse like regular shampoo. Leave on hair for about 10 minutes before rinsing. Use it twice a week for two weeks. After that, use it once a week to prevent head lice from coming back. Follow the label instructions for best results.

There’s even a LiceAliz variant with conditioner for softer, smoother, healthier hair. Another variant has menthol for a cool, refreshing feeling on the scalp. LiceAliz is safe to use on children as young as two years old. One other advantage of LiceAliz over other brands is its price, which is more than 50 percent, lower compared to others. LiceAliz is readily available at drugstores and department stores nationwide.
